Autumn Haze

This is a piece that was designed by Laura J. Perin and is a free pattern on her website. The Wine Country Chapter of ANG did a “Surprise Project” in March of 2009 and the object was for people to work with colors that were outside their comfort zone. A variegated thread trade occurred in January of that year and then everyone was given a supply list of the additional things needed besides the variegated thread for the project. They were then given the pattern at the March program that Janet Perry led. Since I was stitching a model for the program in advance, I called Fireside Stitchery and told them the types of supplies that I needed and told them not to have purples in the variegated, as that is my favorite color and I wanted to work outside my normal colors also. They sent me this package within a few days and I loved what they sent. They were not colors that I probably would have picked, but absolutely fell in love with them.

Queen Anne’s Lace

This was the last class that I was in at the 2010 ANG National Seminar in Columbus, Ohio. It was designed and taught by Ro Pace. I really like Ro’s designs because she always does a lot of Jean Hilton stitches in her pieces. I brought it home from seminar on the stretcher bars and so it was one that I really worked on when I got home. I should have had it done by the beginning of December, but got really sick and wasn’t able to stitch for a month. When I did start on it again, I got frustrated on the final outlining. I did at least five hours of ripping because I didn’t like how some of it looked and re-did all that I had put in.

You can find information on Ro Pace and her pieces on her website at http://designsbyro.com/needlepoint_designs_by_ro/Welcome_2.html. She teaches nationally and has taught some Cyber classes with Shining Needle Society and CyberPointers (an on-line ANG chapter).

Anasazi Song

This is another design that I have stitched by Carole Lake. This was originally a teaching piece that I was able to get from Carole and it is a companion piece to Anasazi Dream. It stitched up very quickly because I didn’t want to put it down once I picked it up. It was a challenge trying to do color matching on the sides, and I only did some color matching on the center star. It is a very nice companion piece to Anasazi Dream and I am lucky to be able to consider it part of my stitching collection.
You can find information on Carole Lake and her pieces on her website at http://carolelake.com/index.html. She teaches nationally along with teaching some Cyber classes.

Anasazi Dream

This is a special “first” piece for me. It was my first class, at my first ANG National Seminar that I attended in Tuscon, Arizona in 2006. I was so excited to be able to go and experience all these national teachers that I had not been able to take classes from before. This class was designed and taught by Carole Lake. Although the piece was not my favorite colors, I still liked the design and thought it would be a good experience. I learned how to do a Double Fan Doubled in this class and boy was that a challenge at first.

I didn’t really know what to expect in these classes because I had only attended Spirit of Cross Stitch Festivals in the mid 90’s and they only had classes that were for about 3 hours at the longest. This class was two days. It was an awesome class and seminars are a great experience. I have only missed the Baltimore seminar since then. I came home and had this along with three other pieces from that seminar done by mid-January.

Expressions In Rose Gold

I know it has been a while since I last posted, but I have now finished my second piece of 2010. I actually finished it about a week ago. This piece is called Expressions In Rose Gold. This piece was a lot of fun to stitch. I took this pilot class that was taught in Elk Grove, California in March this year. I met Nancy Cucci, the designer of this piece when I went to my first ANG National Seminar in Tuscon, Arizona, in 2006. I took a piece called Stitches in Sterling in Tuscon and learned that there are many different beads and many different ways to attach those beads on 18 count canvas and you can create a beautiful piece.

Expressions In Rose Gold is a class that Nancy will be teaching at the ANG National Seminar in Columbus, Ohio, this year. If you would like more information about this class and the seminar, you can see in on the ANG website at: http://www.needlepoint.org/index.php.

Mediterranean Squares

I am excited to say that I have completed my first finish of 2010. I was able to pilot stitch Mediterranean Squares designed by Terry Dryden. I wasn't sure about the piece at first because it was not colors that I cared for. I decided to do it anyway and to force myself to work outside of my comfort zone. Boy am I glad that I did this. This piece was hard to put down and now I don't mind the colors at all. There are also a few threads used in this piece that I hadn't used before and just fell in love with them.

I didn't work on it for about six weeks while I was working with my daughters class and teaching them to needlepoint, but the minute I was done with the class, I was back working on it.

Thank you Terry for such a fun piece that I can put in my collection.
